GRAVESTONE- DARK ORIGIN #0
Writer- Eric Ramos
Penciller- Danny "Dancore" Jimenez
Inkers- Ivy Beth Gladstone, Luis Julian Toruellas, Danny "Dancore" Jimenez
Cover Colors- Danny Jimenez Leon
I've known Danny "Dancore" Jimenez for years now, we've seen each other grow through the ranks and battle through the trenches in the Puerto Rico comic book scene. Which is why I'm so happy to see this series taking flight. Gravestone is Dancore's baby, pretty much, and the care in which this comic is being made with, it shows.
Dark Origins tackles the mysterious origin of the titular Gravestone. This issue in particular looks more like a novel with illustrations, and yet, somehow, it has a unique noir cinematic feel to it. Eric Ramos' pacing and dialogue is very fluid and believable ,with a good mix of mystery, action, and even a dash of horror.
The art is fantastic, Dancore's pencils by itself is incredibly solid, but with the added inks of Ivy Beth Gladstone and Luis Julian Toruellas, incredible artists in their own right, this book is a force to reckon with. I'm not sure if the rest of the series will continue with this style of blocks of text with artwork, or if it will be a more traditional comic, ie panel-to-panel storytelling, but either way this is shaping up to be an entertaining story.
This weekend issue #1 will come out this Sunday September 20 at the East Comic Expo in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, so if you're in the area, pick these indie gems up, or get in contact with Utopixia Studios' website here https://gravestonecomic.wordpress.com/
Thank you all for reading, have a great weekend, and have fun at the Expo!
